Adaptive Ski
Winter Skiing Unlimited is a snow ski program for children and adults with disabilities. This program provides access to snow skiing for many who would not have the opportunity to experience the freedom and exhilaration of skiing. With the help of trained volunteers and adapted equipment, we serve people with almost all types of disabilities – both physical and developmental.
How do I become a participant?
You must be a minimum of 7 years old and weigh a maximum of 150 pounds to participate in Winter Skiing Unlimited. All participants must fill out the application packet each season in order to join us in this program.
How can I help?
This program only exists through the hard work and dedication of our volunteers. The Society for disABILITIES is looking for skiers and boarders at all levels to volunteer with this exciting program. Regardless of your level of ability, we have a spot for you.
Examples of volunteer duties include:
- “Driving” the sit ski
- Skiing ahead of or behind the participant to protect them from other skiers
- Guiding a skier by skiing behind them and holding the reins to keep them at a safe speed
- Some skiers need very little help; they just need a buddy beside them to help them on and off the chairlift
