Precipitation will begin early this morning in the Northern Sacramento Valley, foothills, and the Northern San Joaquin Valley. Mountain snow picks up later this morning, and snow levels increasing through the afternoon should keep amounts suppressed at pass levels. For today, the NBM has a 20-40% chance of snow amounts exceeding 2″ at pass levels across I-80 and Hwy. 50. For areas south of Hwy. 50, the NBM shows a 20-50% of exceeding 4″ through Sunday morning. Generally, WPC forecasts show 3-7″ of snow across the Central Sierra, with the highest amounts in areas above 7000 feet. With the higher amounts being in areas of higher elevation, the Winter Storm Severity index remains at the lowest winter weather impact level, and general winter weather driving conditions are expected.
