Costume & Accessory Safety Policy
At Dodge Ridge Mountain Resort, we love seeing guests bring creativity and color to the mountain. Themed days, fun hats or helmet covers, and family costumes all make for great memories. However, safety always comes first, especially when loading and riding lifts.
To ensure safe operation for all guests, the following guidelines apply to costumes, outerwear, and accessories used on mountain terrain and lifts.
Lift Safety Comes First
Any clothing, padding, or costume accessory that interferes with a rider’s ability to properly sit, balance, or secure the restraint bar on a lift is not permitted.
This includes but is not limited to:
- Bulky “turtle shell” or rear pad accessories that prevent full contact with the seatback.
- Dinosaur tails, wings, or large attachments that hang below or behind the rider.
- Loose capes, long scarves, or dangling decorations that could catch on equipment, the chair, or another guest.
- Any clothing or costume that resembles Dodge Ridge staff uniforms, Ski Patrol, or other official resort personnel. This includes jackets, vests, or outerwear featuring red-and-white crosses, employee-style patches, or designs that could reasonably be mistaken for staff apparel (such as certain North Face x Supreme jackets).
What’s Okay
-
Soft, close-fitting costumes or layers that do not alter sitting posture or obstruct safety bars.
-
Helmets, face coverings, and cold-weather accessories that meet visibility and control standards.
-
Small decorative touches that stay within your own space and can’t catch on lift components or others’ gear.
What’s Not Okay
-
Any item that prevents a rider from sitting fully on the seat.
-
Any attachment that hangs off the back, sides, or below the chair.
-
Any item that limits visibility, range of motion, or the ability to lower the safety bar.
-
Any attire that could be confused with Dodge Ridge Mountain Resort employees or Ski Patrol staff.
Why This Matters
Improper seating or obstructed lift bars can lead to slips, entanglements, or falls during loading and unloading. Our lift operators and Patrol staff may ask you to remove or adjust any costume or accessory that poses a risk before loading the lift.
These rules follow ANSI B77.1 lift safety standards and our resort’s commitment to guest safety.
