Helmet Use
Helmet Safety
At Dodge Ridge, your safety is part of every great day on the mountain. Wearing a properly fitted helmet can make a difference in reducing the risk of head injuries while skiing or riding. While helmets can’t prevent all injuries, they are a key part of responsible mountain recreation and we strongly recommend them for all guests.
Resort Helmet Policy
- Students in our SnowSports School who are 17 and under are required to wear a helmet during any lesson.
- We encourage everyone on the mountain to wear helmets whenever they ski or ride.
Fit & Care
Make sure your helmet fits snugly, covers your forehead, and has not been damaged or involved in a prior impact. Even the best helmet can’t replace good judgment. Always ski and ride in control and within your ability level as part of Your Responsibility Code.
Rentals & Resources
Don’t have a helmet? Rental helmets are available. Our staff can help ensure the right fit before you head out.
Lids on Kids
Dodge Ridge proudly supports the National Ski Areas Association’s Lids on Kids initiative.

Helmet Stats
- Approximately 84% of skiers and snowboarders in the U.S. wear helmets.
- Nearly 100% of kids age 9 and under wear helmets. Many ski areas include helmets in kids’ rental packages, and some may even require children to wear one in a lesson (for example, the state of New Jersey requires all kids under age 18 to wear a helmet while skiing or snowboarding).
- A peer reviewed scientific study found that potentially serious head injuries in skiing decreased as helmet usage increased. Helmets have been found to reduce the severity of head injuries and almost completely prevent lacerations.
